A self-financed project on sexuality and body culture in Brazil. Over a 5 year period I returned to Brazil many times to uncover the allure of a country where a thin line divides Eros and sex, narcissism and exhibitionism. Brazil appeared to be a culture of uninhibited sensuality devoid of taboos, its chaos, lawlessness and violence intrinsically linked to its obsession with sex. From beauty pageants to beach and street life, high to low, transvestite balls to carnival. Brazil’s body culture seems like no other place on earth.
This project once complete was published in most of the world’s key publications including The Sunday Times and Stern Magazine and its maiden issue of its highly influential “Portfolio” series, together with a travelling exhibition to accompany the book’s publication in 2000 with a preface by Caetano Veloso, Brazil’s premier musical ambassador and author Paul Theroux.
